The Sinclair House Project

a New (Old) House in Westfield, NJ.

When our developer client contacted us to do this project, the original intent was to design an addition to an existing house. Immediately it was determined that the existing structure was too far deteriorated to save, the focus became a New House that would blend into the historic fabric of the neighborhood. With explicit directions to ‘make it look like it always was there’, wka+d designed this new house. The front porch and curved roof became the major design elements that spoke to the neighborhood. We thought it was important to create the exterior court yard space in the front of the house that is defined by the stone wall. The three-story curved staircase became the unifying element of this 5,000 sf house. The design and detailing of the interior spaces was meant to reflect the era and style of this neighborhood.
