the 555 House Project

a Renovation and Expansion in Westfield, NJ

This project for a young family involved the complete renovation and expansion of a classic 1920’s Dutch Colonial house. Our clients purchased the home from an estate and many of the features from the original house still remained. They knew that additional space was required, but due to the small lot, an addition would have taken away much of the rear yard. So wka+d focused on expanding and developing under-utilized attic space on the second and third floors. By adding dormers, we were able to create a master bathroom on the second floor and two additional bedrooms and a bathroom on the third floor. A new bay window projection at the main stair landing alleviated the narrow condition by creating a window seat. A coffered ceiling was added to the dining room to enhance the formal space. At the new kitchen and bathrooms, millwork, materials and fittings were all selected to maintain the style of the original house.
