wengerkois architecture + design is a licensed architecture and design firm founded by Maria Wenger Kois and Adam Kois in 2005. The firm creates public and residential projects that reflect our common goal of providing timeless spaces that are unique to both client and site. Since our start, we have developed a reputation of providing the highest quality of service and attention to detail. Located in Fanwood, NJ, our firm currently has projects throughout the New York tri-state area, and has the ability to work anywhere our clients want to build. With an experienced staff of design professionals, our firm provides each client with personal and dedicated service. By specializing in a collaborative, creative problem solving approach to design, we are able to help realize our client’s vision ranging from single furniture pieces to complex projects at any scale.
Maria Wenger Kois, AIA is a principal partner of wengerkois architecture + design and is responsible for the daily management and operation of the firm, in addition to project design. Born and raised in Lancaster, PA, she received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Pennsylvania State University, graduating as class Valedictorian. Prior to starting wka+d, Maria had a successful career in NYC high-end, custom residential design, rising to associate partner at a well established Manhattan architecture firm. As partner of wka+d, she is instrumental in our design development and project delivery. In addition to her primary roles, Maria also successfully guided the firm into becoming an accredited WBE (Woman owned Business Entity), SBE, and DBE Architectural Firm, recognized by the states of New York and New Jersey, the NJ Transit and the PANYNJ.
Adam Kois, RA is a principal partner of wka+d and his primary focus is on design development and construction administration for the firm. Born in Belleville, IL, and raised in Westfield, NJ, he received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Pennsylvania State University. Adam has vast experience on project types ranging from private residences to major public infrastructure projects. In addition to his numerous residential projects, project roles in addition to wka+d include Senior Construction Manager for the World Trade Center HUB Project in NYC and Lead Design Manager for the Design/Build partnership of the New Terminal One Project at JFK Airport. Additionally, Mr. Kois has served on the Borough of Fanwood’s Historic Preservation Commission as the Board’s Architect and Chairman.
