The e76th Street Kitchen Project
an Upper East Side Penthouse Retrofit
This project involved the renovation to an Upper East Side duplex penthouse CoOp located on the edge of the East River. The major scope of the project was to relocate and enlarge the kitchen in the space of the existing dining room. wka+d successfully negotiated this proposed increased ‘wet-over-dry’ configuration with the CoOp Board and allowed the kitchen to expand into a the larger space. This allowed the existing galley kitchen to be turned into a bar and work area. We were able remove the walls between the new kitchen area and living room, creating a view to both spaces through the exposed the refurbished circular stair. All the new kitchen and bar millwork was designed by wka+d and fabricated by the contractor. the project also included modifications to the entry hall, new floors and an extensive lighting package for the entire unit.
