the Prospect House Kitchen Project
a Kitchen for the Prospect House Project in Westfield, NJ
When we set out to design the kitchen for the Prospect House, our clients were adamant about not having a TV in the kitchen. They knew time with their kids is precious and limited, and they didn’t want to distract from that in the one room where they all came together daily. This requirement drove how we developed the layout by creating multiple activity areas for the space that provided flexibility and served multiple functions. The circulation of the house made the kitchen central hub of this activity. By creating events within the space, like an eating area at the new bay projection, a central sitting area and an office, enabled all this activity to occur. The kitchen island is the anchor of the room and acts to guide the additional circulation created by a new mud room/rear entry and dutch doors to the screen porch. The kitchen project featured a custom millwork design by our office and included the integration of reclaimed beams from a 1790’s Barn.
